Assign Permission Groups — Tenant Admin
Overview
Permission groups define what a user can do within the Survanta tenant dashboard. Tenant Admins assign permission groups to control access to features like survey management, reporting, user administration, and integration management.
How Permission Groups Work
Each permission group contains a set of allowed actions (e.g. "Create Surveys", "Download Reports", "View Users"). When you assign a group to a user, they gain all the permissions in that group.
A user can have multiple permission groups assigned. Their effective permissions are the union of all assigned groups.
Viewing Available Groups
- Open Permission Groups from the dashboard navigation.
- The list shows all groups available to your tenant, with a brief description of what each group allows.
Tenant Admins see group descriptions in plain language — not internal permission key names.
Assigning a Group to a User
- Navigate to Users and click the target user.
- In the Permission Groups section, click Assign Group.
- Select one or more groups from the list.
- Click Save.
Removing a Group from a User
- Open the user's profile.
- Click × next to the group to remove.
- Confirm the removal.
Important Rules
- Tenant Admins can only assign groups that are within the Tenant scope. System-level groups are not visible or assignable by Tenant Admins.
- Public participant access (via QR codes and viewer tokens) is separate from permission groups — public participants do not have user accounts.
- Integration API-key clients are separate from permission groups — they use their own scopes.
- A Tenant Admin cannot remove their own admin group assignment.
Common Permission Groups
| Group Name | What It Allows |
|---|---|
| Survey Manager | Create, edit, publish, and delete surveys |
| Report Viewer | View and download survey reports |
| User Manager | Invite, edit, and deactivate users |
| Integration Manager | Create and manage API-key clients |
| Read Only | View surveys and reports without editing |
The exact group names and their available permissions may vary based on your subscription plan and what your Platform Admin has configured for your organization.
