Creating your first survey

Start by confirming the survey purpose, audience, language, and collection method. A clear plan makes the questionnaire easier to review and produces more useful responses.

Recommended workflow

1. Create the survey and give it a clear internal name and code.
2. Add sections and group related questions together.
3. Choose suitable question types, mark required questions carefully, and add choices or conditions where needed.
4. Preview the survey and test the respondent flow before publishing it. Builder creation currently sets IsActive = true, while Publish separately applies readiness validation and activation, so active and published are not equivalent.
5. Select the allowed collection channels, such as authenticated researchers or approved public links.

Keep sensitive questions limited to what the study genuinely needs. Before launch, confirm that assigned users have the correct permissions and that the active plan supports the expected response and storage volume.

Current Authoring and Runtime Boundaries

• Builder mixed ordering stores questions, groups, Dynamic Tables, and Static Content in one section-item order. The current Razor respondent player renders direct questions, groups, Static Content, then Dynamic Tables, so runtime order can differ from the Builder.
• The compact Dynamic Table column editor supports text, integer, decimal, date, yes/no, single choice, multiple choice, and rating columns, but it does not provide a complete choice-option or lookup-dataset authoring workflow. Do not promise lookup/file table columns without confirming a supported path.
• Static Content may be plain text or a managed PDF/image file. It displays information and never creates an answer or exported response value.
• Response editing is conditional. Authenticated/mobile owners or authorized dashboard users may edit only when ownership, permission, survey activity, response status, editing settings, and access mode allow it. Anonymous public-token flows expose no public edit endpoint.
