What Happens When Your Subscription Expires?

A published guide from Survanta's public documentation.

What Happens When Your Subscription Expires?

First, what does not happen

Expiry is not an account closure and not a deletion. When your subscription lapses, Survanta keeps every one of the following exactly as it was:

  • Your organization and all of its settings
  • All user accounts — nobody is removed or locked out of signing in
  • All surveys and every published version of them
  • All collected responses and answers
  • All uploaded files
  • All field tasks and their history
  • All public survey links and viewer links
  • All orders, invoices, payments, and subscription history

Nothing is deleted, archived away, or made unrecoverable. Renewing restores service to exactly the state you left it in.

The right way to describe expiry to your team is:

"Our organization's paid service period has ended."

Not: "Our account has been disabled."

What stops, and what keeps working

The organizing principle is simple: you can still read what you already have; you cannot collect or advance new work.

Recovery pages — current plan, billing, invoices, orders, plan requests, renewal, payment, upgrade, contact, and support — are deliberately kept reachable. An expired organization is never locked out of the path that fixes the problem.

Blocked does not mean half-done

A blocked action does not leave anything behind. Survanta checks the subscription before it touches any data, so a refused request produces:

  • No partly-created response and no orphan answers
  • No file record and no leftover file in storage
  • No field task marked complete, and no completion time or actor recorded
  • No partial review step and no change to a response's revision history

This has been verified by comparing the full database before and after a round of blocked operations: nothing changed.

What your team will see

  • On the website: a clear message explaining that the organization's subscription needs renewal. Pages you can still read continue to load normally.
  • In the mobile app: a specific "subscription expired" result that a well-built app turns into a "renewal required" message. Queued offline responses are kept, not discarded.
  • On a public survey link: visitors see only a neutral "this survey link is unavailable" message. Your billing situation is never disclosed to respondents.
