Create a survey from Excel or a template

SurvantaFlow offers starting points for a new survey. The Survey Builder remains the workspace for reviewing, changing and publishing it. Excel creation does not update or merge into an existing survey.

Guided Excel creation

  1. Open Surveys > Create Survey from Excel, or choose From Excel in Builder. You need both Create surveys from Excel and Manage surveys, and sufficient plan capacity.
  2. Download a fresh workbook in your interface language. Its single visible Survey Builder worksheet includes Survey Information and Build Your Survey. Available lookups and file types come from your organization.
  3. Replace the examples. Add named sections, groups, questions, tables/columns, static content and conditions. Use names to refer to parents and targets, not database identifiers. Put each choice on a new line within its Choices cell (Alt+Enter in Desktop Excel). A group organizes questions; its Repeat setting separately enables repetition.
  4. Upload the .xlsx file (at most 10 MB). Do not add formulas, macros or external references or alter hidden support data. Dropdowns help authoring but do not replace server validation.
  5. Inspect the preview: generated survey name/code, accepted/rejected units, and worksheet/row/column errors. Download the correction workbook where needed. Nothing is created at this stage.
  6. Confirm only the reviewed content. The server checks ownership, current lookups, rules and limits again. A stale or expired preview must be uploaded again.
  7. Open the resulting inactive survey in Builder. Review omissions, readiness and respondent flow before publishing and activating it.

All-or-Nothing creates nothing when there are problems. Partial omits invalid units and dependent items; it can omit a whole question, table or section, not just a cell. It needs acknowledgment at upload and confirmation. Some structural/workbook errors refuse Partial entirely. Prefer All-or-Nothing when the complete structure matters.

The preview belongs to the uploader and expires after 30 minutes. Repeating confirmation does not create a second survey. A Partial error workbook records omissions; it is not a way to merge them into that created survey later.

Start from a survey template

Open Create from Template from Surveys, review the active gallery, language and version, choose Use Template, and confirm. This creates a tenant-owned survey and opens it in Builder. Adapt it there; you are not changing the platform's original template. Review readiness and applicable plan limits before collection.

Choose the right path

  • Designing interactively or editing an existing survey: Survey Builder guide.
  • Preparing a whole new structure in a spreadsheet: guided Excel creation.
  • Adapting an existing ready-made structure: survey template gallery.
  • Importing people rather than questionnaires: Contacts Excel import and export.

Existing response export is a separate Excel download. Advanced report PDF/XLSX/CSV outputs and saved/scheduled reports are Coming Soon, not provided by this creation workflow.
